Yellow Wednesdays: How Does Change Happen?

This month we join forces with the fabulous Flatpack Film Festival to host this event as part of BIRMINGHAM 68
Pop, protest and play.

Working with Flatpack Film Festival and Free Radical, a group of young people will be inviting some special guests to share their own tales of DIY culture and youth activism. Along with a selection of rabble-rousing archive film material, this will help to spark a number of open conversations about how culture and collective action can help to bring about social change.

More details to follow but we are excited to announce Vanley Burke, one of the UK’s best social photographers and the REP’s Stuart Rogers will be part of the Birmingham 68 panel.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the film starts at 7pm.

Yellow Wednesdays
As the golden sunlight from a warm Brummie sunset glistens through the windows of Impact Hub Birmingham, members and guests alike close the lids of laptops and breathe a sigh of relief as another day of world changing activities comes to a close. Meanwhile, a laptop lid is opened, coffee is poured and seats are dragged into a seating arrangement fit for the kings, queens and all those in between, ready to consume another evening of spectacular film programming.

Yellow Wednesdays brings a mix of cinema, from the submissions of local Brummie individuals and companies, through to the more Cannes film festival less Odeon multiplex, captivating stories from all other the world. We aim to bring a rich and diverse programme of films to fill your year, and you can catch it all at Impact Hub Birmingham, every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Flatpack Film Festival

Flatpack is a festival which takes over venues across Birmingham every spring. It draws people from far and wide with a mixture of films, performances, contraptions and surprises, and has been described as “magnificently eclectic” (Time Out), “joyously inventive” (the Guardian) and “the UK’s most creatively curated film festival” (the Independent).

But Flatpack is not just a festival – it’s also a state of mind. Actually, that’s overstating it, but it’s not confined to one time or place. The annual event was spawned from the year-round antics of 7 Inch Cinema, originally a mixed-media filmnight at the Rainbow pub in Digbeth. This grew to embrace inflatable cinema-tents, archive detective-work and DVD compilations, and ten years on we continue to produce our own projects and provide guest programming for others throughout the year. Recent collaborators have included Home of Metal, Green Man Festival, First Light, Birmingham International Dance Festival and the Independent Cinema Office.
