Art Against The Grain

Join Impact Hub Birmingham for a City Camp special of Art Against the Grain, an evening of spoken word, discussion and debate exploring Diversity and Decolonisation. The evening will bring pioneering ideas around diversity from across the world as part of an openly curated festival exploring the future of cities, presented through performance and discussion.

The night will feature Emilie Zoey Baker, a published award winning poet and slam champion. Emilie has performed her poetry all around the world and is a state coordinator for the Australian Poetry Slam. Kavita Bhanot will be sharing her experiences as a writer and her passion about writing that should focus on decolonising and not just diversity. Demi Nandhra, who founded Contemporary Other magazine will be exploring our theme through her work as an artist and writer with a interdisciplinary approach, crossing over performance, installation, film and text.

Our speakers will be joined by local poets Luci HammansAliyah Hasinah & Aliyah Denton (A2) and Lexia Tomlinson. As well as exhibitions from visual artists Shaheen Kasmani and Louise Byng with female empowerment brand mOmhead.

Following the performances a panel discussion will be chaired by Immy Kaur.
