To mark the launch of Impact Hub Birmingham we invite you to join us at our Opening festival.

Demo.B will be home to a series of open, co-curated events. With your help, we aim to explore, celebrate and actively demonstrate ways in which we can collectively build a better Birmingham together.

The sun is out, the shades are on and festival season is well and truly upon us! Here at Impact Hub Birmingham, we’re pretty chuffed to say that we’re no exception to the rule. Spread over a marathon 24 days and jam-packed with events from morning till dusk, we’re super excited to announce the launch of our Demo.B Opening Festival.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Impact Hub Birmingham wouldn’t be here today were it not for the time, money, vision and unyielding faith shown by you all in your hundreds. Over the last 5 years, we’ve had the privilege of being part of a community that’s been consistently optimistic about driving positive change and realising a better future for Birmingham.

Through thick and thin, giddy highs and a few lows we’ve been continually inspired by our city, and have been humbled by the consistent support and encouragement readily given to us. We’re not sure if words will do the feeling justice, but reaching this point together has brought us unparalleled joy, and for that we will always thank you.

We know that nobody has all the answers and that the city is facing entrenched issues and challenges that many individuals, organisations and institutions have been working long and hard to solve. We feel privileged to be at the heart of a city full of citizens that believe a brighter future for the many is possible, and here at the Hub we want the new space to be a living laboratory where we discover and collectively build a future that we believe in.

WHAT WE LEARNT FROM #EPICBRUM

The incredible outpouring of support from the crowd for the #EpicBrum campaign showcased the power of citizens, purpose driven ideas and how new technologies can accelerate/catalyse/galvanise citizens to drive forward their ideas for change. It also highlighted an incredible appetite to collectively build a brighter, more prosperous future. It raised questions about what would make a truly epic Birmingham:

  • What does it mean to be part of a fair, equal, democratic Birmingham for the many?
  • How do we reimagine and build this together?
  • How can we create open platforms for people, ideas, projects, ventures and institutions carving a fairer, equal and more prosperous city?
  • Who are the real trailblazers leading the way?

It’s thanks to these questions that we arrived at Demo.B. These are the questions that align our festival thematically, but even more importantly, these are the questions that require debate and collective action going forward.

And so, in the spirit of our story so far, we could think of no better way to celebrate the launch of the Hub than by marking the final weeks of the build and the earliest days of our growing community with an Opening Festival.

INTRODUCING DEMO.B

Over three weeks Demo.B shall explore the nuances of a democratic city and how we can accelerate collective action through a range of themes. From Citizen Science to Spoken Word, Demo.B aims to explore the new models, ideas, ventures and inspiring people/communities building a better world.

"Lets come together to demonstrate the tomorrow we’re working for; show how the world could be; make such a world feel not just possible, but fundamentally irresistible.

Let us create a place where beliefs are made and unmade, and the limits of the tomorrow can be stretched together."
