“The moment we cry in a film is not when things are sad but when they turn out to be more beautiful than we expected them to be.”

Alain de Botton

Ten months on from the launch of Best Year Ever, having traversed Best Efforts and Best Intentions seasons together as an extended community, we are now firmly establishing ourselves within the season finale of Impact Hub Birmingham, with the announcement of our closing festival: PAUSE and the establishment of The Department for Closing Impact Hub Birmingham busy getting everything ready – from selling our furniture to communicating with members about final direct debit payments.

Back on Monday 24th June we hosted a Mission Mondays evening to begin reflecting on the past 5 years at Impact Hub Birmingham together, including an exercise to write letters to ourselves on the day we came to hub for the first time. This yielded some emotional responses, recalling memories and how much has changed for many of us since we first walked across the Walker Building threshold.

Whether you were here back when the building was empty or visited the hub for the first time recently, we’d love to invite your submissions to a broad call-out to gather and present what Impact Hub Birmingham has meant to you, your work, your ideas, your family, your friendships, anything you’d like to share with us as part of our closing season, and as part of an ongoing collective archive too to capture and remember what, who and how came together under this roof and has spread out across the world.

It would mean the world to us to hear from you, so please bring your energy and curiosity to our creative call-out below.

Specifications:
There’s no fixed specifications, but if you would like us to print any images, text etc for you please ensure files are of a high resolution. Videos are preferable in a landscape format for consistency, but otherwise your creativity is the only limitation. Bring it on!

Deadline:
We’d love to include your submission as part of a display for the closing festival, beginning on Monday 28th October, so this could be a great time to aim to contribute your ideas. However, we can receive responses to add to the growing installation right up until we close.

Further information:
Best wishes is an intervention led by the creative resistance team, and will be displayed physically in the Impact Hub Birmingham space as a growing installation across the final months here. Drop myself an e-mail to louise.byng@impacthub.net if you have any questions, concerns or just ideas that you’d love to see with regards to this call-out.

In addition to sharing submissions, Thom Bartley will also be making an official video for us so there will be opportunity for members and visitors to share thoughts with him on camera in the space over the final few months.

We are also hosting a special Reflection Evening on Monday 14th October from 6.30pm for current team and members past and present with the chance to respond to this question together, so please save the date.

Best wishes,
Byng
